SeaSigns™, Inc. was founded by Suzanne Kiffmann to provide SCUBA divers of all skill levels with an inexpensive, easy-to-learn and easy-to-use way to communicate under water which increases underwater fun and safety. SeaSigns™, Inc. began humbly when Suzanne realized that her deaf niece, Mavis, and her brother, Jim, who both sign, were able to share all sorts of information very quickly during the their dives. Suzanne decided that she wanted to provide for herself and other divers the power and speed that signing gives to underwater communication. SeaSigns™, Inc. is now recognized as the leader of underwater signing. The curriculum was developed by SeaSigns™, Inc. It is recognized by PADI, NAUI, SDI, SSI, YMCA and IAHD. The system is based on American Sign Language (ASL) and Signed English, as well as accepted diving protocol. Signs were chosen for being easy to make and read underwater in full gear, as well as easy to remember. |
